Active comes to the rescue for local family in need…

At Active we are always keen to get involved and help out in our local community in any way we can. Over the years we have taken part in a number of volunteering opportunities, working with a range of charities in order to give back to the community in which we operate in. So, when Reading's Business Community Partnership, Connect Reading, gave us the opportunity to help out a local family in need, we jumped at the chance!

After receiving a request for help from leading family support charity, Home-start, Connect Reading knew Active would be just the team for the job…

The Project...

Having recently moved into accommodation provided by the council, a Reading based family found themselves unable to make full use of their garden due to a steep drop and harsh steps at the end of a large paved area. With three children aged 12, 5 and 3 the steep drop was a real safety risk, preventing the family being able to let their children out to play.

The family were in need of a secure fence to be installed around the garden to create a safe environment for them to enjoy as a family.

However, as a carer for both her young family and husband who recently had to retire due to poor health, the mother had been unable to work, meaning the family were unable to fund the work themselves.

The Solution...

Active contacted the family and within two weeks arranged a team to supply and install fencing along the edge of the paved area. Active also installed a secure gate at the top of the steps, to prevent the children from falling down the steep drop. The team completed the work within the day, creating a safe and secure place for the family to enjoy, ready for the summer!

“You are fantastic! Thank you so much for the work you have done for the family, who I know are extremely grateful and very pleased with the results. The work you have completed means the family are now able to enjoy their garden and play safely.

Once again, many thanks to you and your team and for the speed at which you carried out the work."
